The ultimate result of shielding men from the effects of folly is to fill the world with fools.
-Herbert Spencer, English Philosopher (1820-1903)
That’s exactly what the US has created by it’s massive entitlement programs. I’m all for taking care of people who are truly sick or have REAL health problems that prevent them from holding a job. But what I don’t agree with is providing support for the millions on disability who are ambulatory and really just don’t want to work. Sorry, but OCD or being bi-polar are not disabilities that prevent people from working. They are simply obstacles that have to be dealt with. If you can shop, bowl, work on your house, etc., you are not disabled and if you are getting disability $$, you are STEALING from me and every other taxpayer out there.
Ditto for providing welfare for people just because they have kids. Having unprotected sex that results in a child shouldn’t be a burden on the taxpayers. Multiple kids? How about forced sterilization? Extreme? Yup. Tough love. Make welfare a loan (like it was originally) and those entitled folks will all disappear.
I have no idea why I’m so cranky tonight.
Watching the news tonight really depressed me. I don’t actually know the people in the houses that got destroyed, but I know people who live in that area. I just can imagine having everything one owned destroyed in just a few minutes. Imagine if your house was flattened but your neighbor’s house untouched… How could you explain that to your kids?
As of the late news there were no reports of death, but I find it hard to believe that there was nobody home at ANY of those imploded houses. There is so much debris, they wouldn’t be able to see a body.
My prayers go out to those that lost all their worldly possessions. At least it’s just “stuff” and not lives.
== PS: it turned out that there weren’t any fatalities. Pretty miraculous!¬†
Perhaps I’m a glutton for punishment. I’m on the notification email list for Grants.gov and I get angry at about half of what I see listed.
Why is the US Department of Labor spending nearly  a MILLION DOLLARS on improving labor law compliance in the agricultural sector in Guatemala. WTF? Why are we spending ANY money worrying about how another country enforces their labor laws? Why?
Nice idea, but the US needs to start keeping the money at home. The idea that some presidential candidates want to raise taxes when they get elected when money is going out the door for crap like this makes my blood boil. This is certainly not money spent to benefit US citizens. We need to stop bleeding money into unnecessary programs. Now.
