Are there Veteran’s benefits to pay for long-term care?

Yes!

Do you know a veteran or their widow(er) that needs help paying for long-term care?

I’m posting this hoping that some folks will find some benefit to it, and party because I have a tendency to lose brochures, etc., and I wanted to make sure I could get my hands on this info if I needed it again.

Many people are unaware that there is a veteran’s benefits to pay for long-term care, and it pays for aid and attendance or housebound benefits.

(This veteran’s benefits to pay for long-term care program has been renamed, again, it is now called Veterans Aid & Attendance Pensions Benefit.)

What does it take to qualify?

• only 90 days of continuous, active duty military service, one of which was during wartime.
• any discharge other than a dishonorable discharge
• disabled OR at least age 65

This most important veteran’s benefits to pay for long-term care is overlooked by many families with Veterans or surviving spouses who need additional monies to help care for ailing parents or loved ones. This is a “Pension Benefit” and IS NOT dependent upon service-related injuries for compensation. Aid and Attendance can help pay for care in the home, Nursing Home or Assisted Living facility. A Veteran is eligible for up to $1,788 per month, while a surviving spouse is eligible for up to $1,149 per month. A Veteran with a Spouse is eligible for up to $2,120 per month and a Veteran with a Sick Spouse is eligible for up to $1,406 per month*.
