Divide a generation?
From President Obama’s speech at the inauguration today:
“… And yet, at this moment – a moment that will divide a generation – it is precisely this spirit that must inhabit us all.”
I’m sorry, but I started cracking up when he said this line during his speech today. DIVIDE a generation? I can’t imagine the pressure of giving a speech that the entire world is listening to and will pick apart, but he’s got a teleprompter, for heaven’s sake.
It was supposed to be DEFINE a generation.
And yet, at this moment – a moment that will define a generation – it is precisely this spirit that must inhabit us all.
There were some good parts to the speech, but overall I’d have to say his campaign speeches were more powerful.
During the oath, and that awkward moment when the chief justice screwed up the words and Obama stumbled on them, I could only imagine Michelle thinking, “Oh my God, I can’t believe my husband messed that up.”
Kudos to Obama. I didn’t vote for him, but as my president, I respect him.
