Who to trust on product reviews?

I’m shopping for a new, bigger hard drive for my younger son’s xmas gift. Found this one:

Anybody know if it’s any good? The price ranges for hard drives of this size only fluctuate about $10 either way, so price isn’t all that much of a concern. I just need to know if it’ll last. Read both very good and very bad reviews on Amazon, which makes me skeptical.

Who to trust?

Honestly, I haven’t used a Seagate in long time. I have always been a Western Digital guy, so I’m not of any use in the personal experience category.

However, when looking for product reviews, I tend to check Amazon and NewEgg. In my opinion, Amazon reviews tend to be a bit more “man on the street” while the reviews on NewEgg seem to be by more professionals and geeks. The reviews on NewEgg are also pretty split. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148375

Thanks Chris. I’d forgot about the newegg reviews. After reading those, I can see that this drive isn’t what we want. Unless I want a total teenager breakdown in a month when it crashes…
