Let’s take care of our own, first

I know I shouldn’t even read the grant opportunities emails because I’m requently PO’d when I’m done.

My latest peeve:¬† a MILLION DOLLARS to Improve Ecuador’s Coastal parks through Short-Term Employment of Flooding Victims. (http://www07.grants.gov/search/search.do?&mode=VIEW&flag2006=false&oppId=41403)

Huh? Was someone just looking for a way to spend money? How the heck is that kind of spending the responsibility of the US. We have infrastructure problems all over the place and we’re spending money to improve parks in Ecuador? This crap has to stop. (Another listing offers 3.2 million dollars for innovative ideas in primary education — in Tanzania!)

Even worse… $39,000,000 (yes, million) for family planning in Uganda. How is that even part of the federal budget?
